The quality and origin of raw materials, humidity, temperature, choice of water, blending, extrusion, cutting and drying time; all these factors have been managed to produce incense which has a delicate fragrance and consistently good burn.

The story of Koju 1575:
During the TenshoEra in Japan (1573 – 1592 CE), Jyuemon Takai was the master of incense to the EmperorImperial Palace during the Tensho Era. Known as ‘Koju’ his skills were widely known and respected - inspiring the foundation of Nippon Kodo, the renowned Japanese Incense Company.
Over four hundred years and eight generations later, in the 21st century, Nippon Kodo has produced a special range of incense to honour Koju’s memory and skills, which have been passed down to today’s Incense makers – Koju 1575.
Koju Incense is the result of the collaboration between Hisao Iwai, the Japanese master perfumer and French designer, Fred Néry, responsible for Koju’s beautiful and elegant boxes. The results are a mix of cultures between East and West, through traditional incense made by Nippon Kodo who master and continue the skills fromJyuemon Takai in 16th century, more than 430 years ago. The date 1575 in the name of this incense refers to the year of Nippon Kodo’s foundation.
Raw materials forKoju 1575 are sourced from a wide range of the world. Including, Sandalwood from India, Cinnamon from Arabia, Clove, Star Anise and Patchouli from around SE Asia, Frankincense from Sudan, Benzoin from Sumatra, Nard from the Himalayas and Aloeswood from Cambodia, Vietnam and Borneo.
