Incense Charcoal | Miyako Sumi by Shoyeido | box of 48 pieces

Use Shoyeido Incense Charcoal in Incense bowls when you are using the Indirect method of burning aromatic materials (such as resins and wood-chips). Fill a bowl 2/3 full with Ash or Sand (both available from Vectis Karma), light a Charcoal brick and place on top of the ash/sand. You may now drop/lay aromatic material's on top of the glowing charcoal, so they burn and release their fragrance.

For a slower and more controlled aromatic release, you may bury the glowing charcoal brick under the surface of the ash/sand and place a Mica plate above this. You then place your aromatic materials on this mica plate (made of silicate mineral).

Using a good quality Ash or sand (as we sell here) dissipates the heat evenly out from the charcoal and protects the bowl it sits within. Still be mindful of the type of bowl you use - ceramic and cast iron are best - avoid plastic!

  • 48 high-quality Charcoal pieces
  • Each one measures approx.  25mm long, 12mm wide and 6 mm thick
  • They light easily and burn evenly
  • Miyako Sumi Charcoal by Shoyeido
  • Use with Wood-Chips, Aromatic Resin (granules), Herbs etc.
  • Made in Japan

Burning aromatic material indirectly is a great alternative to Incense Sticks
